The IAS is pleased to provide support to graduate students and recent Ph.D. recipients presenting papers about the art or architecture of ancient to contemporary Italy.  Grants may be used for travel expenses incurred in conjunction with presentations at the College Art Association, the International Congress on Medieval Studies, and the Renaissance Society of America.

IAS Congratulates the Recipients of Its 2010 Travel Grants:

Zoë Willis, Ph.D. Candidate, University of Warwick, “Of Saints and Empire: Venice, Hungary, and Dalmatian Zadar 1350–1450,” in the session “Questioning Geographies and Temporalities: Postcolonizing the Medieval Image” at CAA in Chicago.

Jessica Richardson, Postdoctoral Research Associate, CASVA, “Pilgrims, Prisoners and Holy Liberations: The North Portal of San Leonardo in Lama Volara (Apulia) and the Cult of Saint Leonard of Noblat in Twelfth-Century Italy,” in the IAS-sponsored session “Foreign Saints in Italy/Italian Saints Abroad” at the ICMS in Kalamazoo.

IAS Announces Changes to Its Travel Grant Competition, effective Fall 2010

At the 2010 CAA Business Meeting, the IAS membership unanimously voted for several important expansions to its Travel Grant Competition, to take effect with the 2010–2011 competition.

• Graduate students at any level (M.A., M.Phil., or Ph.D.) are now eligible for Travel Grant support.

• Scholars who are within 10 years of the receipt of the Ph.D. and do not hold a tenured position are now eligible for Travel Grant support.

• Awards may now be used for travel to the Renaissance Society of America as well as to the College Art Association and International Congress on Medieval Studies.

These changes take effect with the 2010–2011 Travel Grant competition.  The deadline for applications is November 1, 2010; application instructions are available here: 2010-11 IAS Travel Grant Flyer.  For questions, please contact Maria de Prano, chair of the IAS Travel Grant Committee.
