Context is a network of scholars and specialists—in disciplines including archaeology, art history, cuisine, urban planning, history, environmental science, and classics—who, in addition to our normal work as professors and researchers, design and lead in-depth walking seminars for small groups of intellectually curious travelers.

Civitella Ranieri Internships
Interns are a treasured and integral part of the Civitella Ranieri community and daily life. They provide assistance with library functions, the meal program, excursions, presentations, and exhibitions at the Center. Interns work with both the Executive Director and the Fellows’ Coordinator on a variety of special projects built around individual interests, experience, goals, and skills. The Civitella internship is a true formative experience stressing public speaking, teamwork, problem solving, and program planning. The annual competition for interns begins with an announcement on the Civitella Ranieri website each fall in the NEWS section. The deadline for applications is December 31st each year. What is Civitella Ranieri? Artists require unfettered time and space to engage in their work and the world. Building on the legacy of our founder, Ursula Corning, the Civitella Ranieri Foundation opens the doors of its 15th century castle in rural Umbria annually for four six-week residency sessions of self-directed studio and work time. Each residency community of 12-14 brings together accomplished international artists, writers, and composers at emerging and established moments in their careers. They are joined by a limited number of invited Director’s Guests to foster a robust contemporary dialogue that transcends disciplines and geography. A Civitella Ranieri Fellowship changes lives, develops permanent connections, and refreshes one’s work.

Peggy Guggenheim Collection Internships
The museum offers an internship program for Italian and international students who study art, art history or related disciplines who are interested in gaining first-hand experience of how a museum is run. The program is a learning experience for all who take part, immersing interns in the cultural life of the city of Venice, allowing them to gain practical experience of museum operations and familiarity with an important collection of modern art. Activities include managing the galleries during opening hours to the public, assisting visitors, staffing the ticket office, cloakroom and other visitor facilities, supporting the museum office staff in various departments and participation in the educational activities of the museum, including presentations to the public, guided tours and workshops with children. The program includes educational activities such as seminars, conferences, educational trips and guided tours for interns.

The Cultural Centre for Foreigners of the University of Florence was founded back in 1907 by professors Guido Biagi and Piero Barbera. Initially, the activity of the Centre was limited to the summer courses of Italian language with lectures in “Italian Literature”, “History of Art” and “Florentine History.” Now located in Via Francesco Valori 9, close to Piazza Savonarola, not far away from the city center, the center offers courses taught by University of Florence faculty in Italian language and culture.

The International Studies Institute (ISI Florence) offers semester, year-long, and summer academic programs to US college and university students. Latin, The University of Arizona
Summer Intensive Latin Program
The Department of Classics typically offers Summer Intensive Language Programs in Greek and Latin. Students may enroll for one or both sessions in either language. Those who successfully complete Session II will be prepared to enroll in upper level undergraduate or perhaps graduate Latin or Greek courses. No prior knowledge of Greek or Latin is necessary to enroll in Greek 112 or Latin 112, but previous foreign language experience may be helpful. The cost of the summer intensive programs is low, as is the cost of living in Tucson during the summer.

The Department of Classics typically offers beginning, intermediate, and medieval Latin during summer terms.
Beginning Latin I
These sequence of courses introduce students to the language of the ancient Romans for the first time. It emphasizes the fundamentals of Latin grammar and vocabulary, and prepares students to read original Latin texts. An appreciation for ancient Roman culture is also fostered through secondary readings and class discussion.
Beginning Latin II

It develops students’ translating skills, introduces methods for studying Latin literature in its historical and cultural contexts, and prepares students for advanced work in Latin language and literature.
Medieval Latin
Prerequisite: both Elementary and Intermediate Classical Latin (or the equivalent), taken recently for college credit; $45 materials fee
This course is an introduction to the Latin language and literature of the late antique and medieval periods (ca. A.D. 200-1500). Designed to move students toward independent work with Medieval Latin texts, the course will emphasize the close reading and careful translation of a variety of representative Medieval Latin texts and documents, with attention to vocabulary and word formation, orthography and pronunciation, morphology and syntax, and prose styles and metrics. The course will also provide an introduction to the principal areas of medieval Latin scholarship, including lexica, bibliographies, a review of the principal constructions of Classical Latin and great collections and repertories of sources, and reference works for the study of Latin works composed in the Middle Ages. ($45 materials fee). The Medieval Academy of America’s Committee on Centers and Regional Associations (CARA) offers two full-tuition scholarships for students taking a three-credit summer program Latin course through the Medieval Institute at Notre Dame. The department of Italian at Rutgers University offers an undergraduate summer program in Italy in the beautiful Renaissance town of Urbino to provide students at various levels with an opportunity to study Italian in its natural environment. The courses offered include Elementary and Intermediate Italian, Advanced Conversation and Civilization, and Italian Literature of the Renaissance. All students will be housed in the student residence at the University of Urbino. Three meals a day will be provided. Program costs also include group excursions to some of the most beautiful cities in Italy, such as Ravenna, Florence, and Venice.
